Jérôme Blin

A native of Redon from a farming family, Jérôme Blin first worked in industry before turning to photography. This personal journey has had a profound influence on his artistic vision.

Passage

In 2002, he produced “Passage”, an intimate series devoted to his parents, farmers in the Vendée region, on the eve of their retirement. Through black-and-white photographs, he captures gestures, glances and exchanges on the family farm.

L’entretemps

In this vein, Blin developed the “L'entretemps” series in 2016. In it, he questions the suspension of time, staging ordinary moments. Refusing the posture of reportage, he strives to bring out the silent beauty of these suspended moments.

Voyage ordinaire

That same year, 2016, he also produced “Voyage ordinaire”, a work focusing on the nocturnal journeys of workers with staggered working hours, in the city of Saint-Nazaire. Slipping into their skin, Blin photographs familiar places between wakefulness and sleep. The images reveal a diffuse solitude, transforming these daily commutes into a form of mental cartography.

La promesse

In 2022, Jérôme Blin returns to rural themes and questions of identity with “La promesse”, created as part of the “Ruralité(s)” residency at the Festival Photo La Gacilly. In it, he explores the dilemmas of young Breton people living in rural areas, torn between rootedness and exile. His portraits - of apprentices, students and young workers - capture a youth in transition, in everyday spaces imbued with melancholy.
